A silversmith pours silver from clay crucible; he then hammers out the resulting ingot into a thin rod which he draws into wire by means of a wire-drawing plate. He then gives it a spiral form by turning it on an iron windlass. This spiral is divided by means of a chisel into small silver rings which are linked together to form a chain.
