Abstract

The summary report on the results of the archaeological excavation, the analysis of human remains, mortuary practices and various artifacts, and the cultural and chronology sequences of Khok Charoen archaeological site, Chaibadal District, Lopburi Province, that undertaken by the Thai-British Archaeological Expedition in season 1966-1970.

Based on the results of the four years excavation, at least 74 burial found and have been dated to 3,000 BP, the late Neolithic to the early Bronze Age. These extended burials can be divided into three phases: 1) the initial burial phase has consisted of a few burials found in 1968 (KCIII), 2) the second burial phase that was larger and high density, consisting of many burials either in the excavated areas of KCIII (1968) and KCIV (1966, 1970), and 3) the last burial phase, most found in excavated areas in 1967 (KCII).

Part of these human remains, particularly the individual in the excavated area of KCIII have been analyzed by Professor Sood Sangvichien and his colleagues from the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. Unfortunately, the other human remains either have been not analyzed or only have estimated their age at death due to their poorly conditions.
