This lecture introduces the role of museums in safeguarding ICH. Museums can be instrumental in many facets of safeguarding, including inventorying, research and documentation, revitalization, and education. Most importantly, if museums are to become centers for cultural revitalization, they must strive to establish lasting partnerships in their communities by involving local residents in museum planning and decision-making, as well as by building networks with local institutions such as community associations, local government agencies, and schools.
