In this lecture, Dr. Stefano presented some steps and measures for identifying intangible cultural heritage. Identifying cultural elements is an initial step for reviving and/or transmitting them to the next generation. However, identification process requires collaboration at the local and regional level,, and should involve cultural bearers as much as possible.

Once communities have identified what is their ICH, then they have to work with authorities at the regional and national level in order that the latter recognize the elements. However, Dr. Stefano also emphasized there are limits to ICH identification because culture always changes. She cited both examples from Thailand and abroad, and she also explained some practical tools for ICH identification.
