Culture and Rights in Thailand Workshop

When:
July 5-7, 2011
Where:
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre, Bangkok

This workshop is designed to facilitate critical discussion of the nine sub-projects within the Culture and Rights in Thailand Project (CRT) among researchers themselves and with the resource people. In addition to providing a platform for presenting findings, the Workshop is intended to encourage interaction between resource people and researchers on all aspects of the papers. The Workshop also aims to strengthen the theoretical and conceptual framework of the CRT Project in order for the project to do justice to the diversity of contemporary culture and rights debates.

In order to achieve these goals, the Workshop encourages critical reflection on culture and rights in Thailand via the individual projects as well as across common themes and political developments which condition the expression of rights and rights-claiming behavior as well as the avoidance of such behavior. The Workshop discussion will also take up cross-cutting themes on culture, community and heritage through the prism of rights.
