Review of Ganesh Himal Museum

In 2004, Ajarn Pundhorn Teerakhanon founded the Ganesh Himal Museum. His inspiration came form his own strong faith in Ganesh or Phra Phikanet. He himself already had an impressive collection of objects of worship and had been doing serious studies on Hinduism. “Setting up a museum wasn’t my intention at first. I simply loved to collect. I also believed in Ganesh. I’ve been collecting since I was 19.

Review of Manee Thong Heritage House

Ban Manee Thong, several decades old, is a 2-story wooden house on stilts with a spacious open space underneath. The owners Khun Ratchanee Ob-rom and her husband 2nd Lieutenant Chuen live here. Khun Ratchanee is a native of Ban Hong Subdistrict in Lamphun Province. After her marriage at the age of 19, she served as a government official in Chachoengsao Province.

Review of Community Learning Centre of Ban Nong Jik

The Center location used to be a public space where the ritual of Paa Haew was observed by the Lao Song (or Tai Dum, Tai Song Dum, Tai Song). The significance of this ritual was to send off the spirits of the dead. The place has presently been developed and transformed into a “Community Learning Center,” – a government strategy to develop cultural education at the provincial level, and to delegate resources.

Review of Sand Sculpture Museum

Selecting sand of the desired quality was the first process to create magnificent sand sculptures done by Khun Wuttichai Semsap, who is Managing Director of the Sand Sculpture Museum. Museum of Wat Jin Pracha Samosorn (Leng Hong Yi)

Wat Leng Hok Yi is a Chinese temple in Mahayana Buddhism. Its long history traced back to the reign of King Rama V who had great faith in Abbot Chin Wang Samathiwat (also known as Hok Seng). He was the founding abbot of the Mahayana Buddhist temple Mangkorn Kamalawat (Dragon Lotus Temple) or Wat Leng Noei Yi in Bangkok. He also built Leng Hok Yi Temple in Chachoengsao.

Review of Kukrit Institute

On the occasion of the 100th birthday anniversary of M.R. Kuksit Pramoj, 20 April 2011, UNESCO honored him as “World Historic Important Figure,” for his works and achievements in the fields of Culture, Education, Social Studies and Mass Communications. M.R. Kukrit was former Prime Minister, and a National Artist of Thailand (1985, for Literature). The Kukrit Institute is under the Kukrit 80 Foundation, which has as its Royal Patron Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Review of Ban Pak Mab Miniature Dock Museum

This miniature dock museum was built in 1996. That was a time of unemployment and hardship for a lot of Ban Pak Mab villagers, caused by the very polluted sea water. A group of them resorted to go and learn the craft of making boat miniatures with Ajarn Kamol Wiboonkitdhanatorn in Bua Kao Village, Minburi District, Bangkok. Some apprentices eventually turned professionals, capable of passing on the skills to some other fellow villagers.

Review of Amphawa Chaipattananurak

The late afternoon Amphawa floating market came into existence on Mother’s Day, 12 August 2504. The initiation had been done by the Amphawa locals themselves, led by the Amphawa Food Stall Club, which is a Community affiliation of the Samut Songkram Food Safety Assembly. Later the Amphawa municipality and some core community leaders contributed their personal funds to set up the market. The first activity was a food fair.

Review of Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre

This historical center came into existence through the collaboration of Thai-Japanese academics. Established in 1986, it focuses on the studies of Ayutthaya history. The contents are the research data on 4 major topics: the era when Ayutthaya was the capital of Siam, the time it was a port city or international trade hub, the time it was the central state of politics and administration and a range of aspects on traditional village life.

Review of Wat Chedi Hoi Museum

What makes Wat Chedi Hoi unique is its magnificant chedi constructed with fossilized oyster shells. The temple is a famous tourist attraction of Pathum Thani Province. The construction of this chedi, which commanded so much religious faith of devotees, was started some 20 years ago. The abbot Phra Kru Sunthornkhunthada (Luang Por Thongklueng Suntaro) at that time was looking for a location to build a temple – following his vision.

Review of Phai Dam Local Culture Centre

Wat Phai Dum Schoolis an elementary school. Its beautiful light green classroom building can be seen from quite a distance away. The Culture Center is an establishment that connects all the classrooms to the educational center, having a common goal of offering lessens on Thai ways and their own local ways. The center was set up in 1983 and got extended in 1987.

Review of Golden Teakwood House Museum

Wat Devarajkunchorn Worawiharn is a very old temple founded in 2393. Visually very stunning in its compound stands a large, golden teak wooden mansion. Professor Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnawin, Chairperson of the Temple Renovation Project, and Thanpuying Montinee Mongkolnawin, Vice Chair-person, donated funds for the construction of the mansion, which now serves as a museum or a preservation center of Buddhism.
