Our museum guides were two important persons in the village, Mr. Boon Naaklang former kamnun of Tambon Samrit and Mr. Terchtai Bomthonglang former assistant headman of the Moo 1 village. Before showing us into the museum Kamnun Boon went to worship Grandma Boonlua spirit house located a little to the right of the museum front. A historical find of Wat Thammachak Semaram, a Dvaravati populated community of Muang Sema is the “Wheel of Dharma”, which is a significant evidence of the past glories at the time Buddhism was flourishing. The Wheel is a sandstone carved and shaped like a Wheel, with a carved lion head prostrated in front of the Reclining Buddha. This image is an ancient, large-sized one called, most respectfully and with great belief, by the locals “Ong Por Yai” (Big Father Buddha).

The Wat Bua museum, constructed in 1999, was officially inaugurated on November 10, 2002. Review พิพิธภัณฑ์สืบสานภูมิปัญญาชาวนาไทย วัดประชาคมาราม

The Thai Rice Farmer Wisdom Preservation situated in the Wat Phrachakamaram has been open to the public since 2002, according to the wish of Phra Kru Wisuttiprayut abbot of the temple. He had wanted to show to the younger generation how rice farming, being the most important occupation of Thai farmers, had been done so that the younger ones would be grateful too. The starting point of the collection was after the “Festival of the Sustenance of Thai Farmers’ Wisdom” had been organized on January 20-21, 2001

The museum was founded with a private fund from Ajarn Virote Srisuro, an Architecture instructor. Though a Southerner by birth, Ajarn Virote had so much interest and admiration for the art works and crafts of the Northeastern people. The interest had developed since he was assistant instructor to Ajarn Saengarun Ratkasikorn who at that time was teaching at the Northern Technological College.

Review พิพิธภัณฑ์ท้องถิ่นวัดโคกศรีสะเกษ
By: webmaster (513) | Date: 10 กุมภาพันธ์ 2555 18:29 น.

Wat Kok Sisaket is a very old temple. Its main assembly hall, built around 1789, has around it boundary stones inscribed in Khmer scripts. Nearby, there is an open wooden structure with paintings on the ceiling. Apparently they were the work of some local artists, depicting the imaginary scenes of the legendary Himmapan jungle wildlife. The artists, anonymous, used natural colours or paints. On one roof side there is an inscribed bolt without the artist’s name. Visible is only the year it was done – 1903. This wooden sala stands between the main building and the old assembly hall. The local folks call it “hospitality hall” or alms hall.

Wat Prommarat Monastery Museum was established according to the intention and determination of the temple’s former abbot, Phra Siharajsamajarumunee (O-pas Niruttimedhi) who was Nakhon Ratchasima’s Patriarch (Phra Dhammavoranayok). He initiated the construction in 1987. The old museum was housed in the same building as the library.

Learning is definitely not confined to the knowledge found in textbooks and school classrooms. This concept is the type of education Pak Thongchai School gives to the children. The school has a community-based curriculum emphasizing the need for children to know their community well. The credit should go to the teachers who have made the efforts to acquire knowledge or local wisdom from the locals.

The Salawan Forest Temple history has it that the temple had once been an Aranyawasi one. It was first built as a monastery in 1931, following Luang Channikom (Thong Chantrasorn)’s donation of the land. Somdej Phra Maha Weerawong (Ouan Tisso), the then Phra Prommuni, named the monastery after its location – Wat Pa Salawan. The particular site of the temple used to be a Siamese sal forest (sal or sala is the name of the tree, wan or wana means a forest).
