In former times, Ban Kok Kao Village in Amphur Prakum, Buri Ram Province, was the starting point of cracking firearms of the Communist insurgency operations in the Southern Isan region. That happened around 30 years ago. A memorial of the Southern Isan people was erected to commemorate those past important events and the sacrifices of the comrades,

The museum is named Centre of Thai Three Tribes Community Culture because in this village where the community is situated comprises 3 ethnic groups – the Khmer, the Suay or Kui, and the Lao. Taking us around Ajarn Chatrat Taweekul, head of the child development center situated in the temple ground, started by explaining that they were very busy moving the museum things from the old rundown wooden building to the new concrete one.

The lifestyles of the local folks have been changing with the passage of time. Fabric weavers have dwindled in numbers, and local utensils have been replaced by modern ones. Because of these changes, an initiation to collect and hoard up local things found around in the village was started with the help, or rather donations, from school children’s parents and other locals.

The district is a frontier area with Cambodia bordered by Dong Lek mountain range. As a consequence, it was literally a jungle region with few residents. However, in 1960, a commune was officially opened for people from all regions to settle in. Forests were cleared to pave a way for new settlement. Later on, coated pottery was found, such as, jars and water containers.

Review พิพิธภัณฑ์โบราณวัตถุยุคก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ วัดป่าพระสบาย

The museum is located in Wat Pa Phra Sabai. The museum houses a display of the antiques excavated by the villagers from a swamp at the end of the village. In 1973 while digging a water well the villagers found some earthenware utensils, but nobody paid much interest in them. Then in 1997 the villagers were digging again deeper down at 1 metre level in order to do tapioca farming.

The Local Cultural Center of Buriram Pittayakom School is meant to be a place of learning for pupils, students, and the general public, with emphasis on local wisdom and technologies that could be applied and made use of. Its other purpose is to cultivate public awareness in the much needed collaboration between the younger generation and the people in the community in reviving and preserving local arts and culture, the environment, the Thai local wisdom, for the common good.

The Center of Southern Northeast Culture is situated in the front ground of the Rajabhat Buriram University. It is meant to be a place where historical and archeological artifacts related to Isan South are collected and shown publicly. The center was originated from an academic seminar on “The History and Culture of Isan South” organized in 1982. It was from then on that a project and plans to be incorporated in the province’s development plans were presented to the provincial authorities for the construction of a cultural hall.

Review พิพิธภัณฑ์บ้านปราสาทและแหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านปราสาท
By: webmaster (513) | Date: 10 กุมภาพันธ์ 2555 18:33 น.

It is a museum that represents the admirable collaboration between the government offices and the local people, with the result that the locals benefit from tourism and the tourists in turn have a good opportunity to see and learn a lot when visiting the archeological site there. Visiting the museum is part of the homestay in Ban Prasat, a village that readily welcomes both Thai and overseas visitors by putting them up in their homes.

Review สวนทุ่งลุงพี
By: webmaster (513) | Date: 10 กุมภาพันธ์ 2555 18:33 น.

Suan Thung Uncle Pee is a private museum situated within the compound of a resort named Suan Thung Lung Pee (lung – uncle). The name derived from the fact that the land around here used to be coconut groves and fruit orchards, but not for commercial purposes. The villagers came in here to collect water for household use. They called it “suan thung” (suan – an orchard; thung – a large open space generally having some swamps in it). When Uncle Pee (the resort and museum owner) developed the land, he chose to call it by its commonly known name.

Looking back to life in olden days we can say that the flourishing of civilization of a certain nation derived significantly from agricultural development. Season after season, farmers’ ploughs tilled the land. Wind-powered mills irrigated rice farms. Dugout boats made from tree trunks carried goods along waterways. Ox carts carried rice grains. Elephant carts carried wood logs. There are the pictures in motion of days past, thanks to the skills and wisdom of the local folks.

The Maha Viravong National Museum was created around a collection of antique artifacts which belonged to Somdej Phra Maha Viravong (Oun Tisso) who was once a significant monk in northeast Thailand.
