Review พิพิธภัณฑ์หาดทรายแก้ว
By: webmaster (513) | Date: 13 กุมภาพันธ์ 2555 11:57 น.

The museum was established by Mrs. Yerm Ruangpradit, a 46-year-old former merchant. She is now the village head and owner of the Hatsai Kaew Resort. She started collecting antiques when she was 16 years old, mostly bought from fishermen who got the antiques from wrecked ships. In the past, the antiques were bartered for rice and chickens. Mrs. Yerm is so infatuated with antiques that she once sold a land plot for seventy thousand baht and used the money to buy a 1,000-year-old plate from the Song Dynasty.

Mr. Suchart Sapsin is a famous shadow play master in the southern region. Besides performing plays, he is also very skillful in carving shadow play figures. As a craftsman, he started collecting the figures for ease of their designs, without an intention to found a museum. The inspiration to establish the museum began in 1985 when he performed the play for His Majesty the King. His Majesty thanked him for preserving this performing art. The discourse inspired him to open his house as a museum to preserve the art.

Since 1966, artifacts and antiques have been looted or smuggled from the Khuan Luk Pat site. The abbot, Venerable Athornsangworakit (Sawat Kantasangtho), was afraid that the national treasures would be lost, and has started collecting the objects ever since and has displayed them in the temple museum.
