Lecturer: Prof. Peter Davis

Professor of Museology at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies, Newcastle University

This lecture begins with an overview of what is meant by “human rights” and “cultural rights,” according to international instruments such as the University Declaration on Human Rights (1948), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1976) and the Fribourg Declaration on Cultural Rights (2007). It then turns to a discussion of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Indigenous IPR, and the Codes of Ethics for Museums. What do they state about ICH, IIPR and Cultural Rights?
