Lu Village –The Life-lengthening “Seup Chata” Ritual
This case study presents the working group’s field research in the Ban Luk community on one element of ICH: the “Seup Chata” life-lengthening ceremony. The video documents the process of engaging with the Ban Luk Senior Association to learn about the history and meaning of this ritual practice, and of determining appropriate and sustainable approaches for safeguarding the practice. The video also addresses some of the key challenges related to safeguarding the “seup chata” ritual, such as the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and handicraft skills associated with the rite.
