Saving, Redeveloping and Living Rattanakosin project works to integrate saving and redeveloping land or space or buildings with the people and communities that inhabit them? It does so by looking at the agents involved in saving and redeveloping Rattanakosin (the planning and redevelopment authority, tourism authority, conservation agency, land owners) and seeing how their efforts can be reconciled with community (Tha Tien and Mahakan) attempts at preserving economic livelihoods and ways of life. Two types of reconciliation (each with promises as well as pitfalls) are possible. The first is in the way the government potentially incorporates community claims while the second option lies in arrangements by land owners to work with and provide for community amenities in their projects.
